![]() Red clay bust 2015 - crackedThe bust was allowed to air-dry as it contained a wood and metal armature. Although not expected, the cracks were a benefit as it created more abjection. | ![]() Making cast from cracked bustThe bust, resting on a bed of clay, smeared with a resistant layer of petroleum jelly receives the first application of plaster of Paris. | ![]() Process of making cast of Clay bustInitially the plaster of Paris is flicked at the bust to engage the liquid with the surface and eject it into cracks and crevices that will be revealed in the final mould. |
![]() Making a mould to create a castRed clay bust cracked beyond reasonable repair but became thereby more abject. A fresh cast would be desirable and therefore a mould must be made. Here the scrim is being layered with the plaster of paris. | ![]() Plaster cast from red clay bust | ![]() Interior of front of head of mouldNot such a pretty sight. Quite insect-like, I think. The resultant wax mould was less like the original clay bust. |
![]() A new bust in wax from original clayThis was created in the latex skin that was created from the mould of the clay bust | ![]() Shoulder of wax bust in mixed mediaI love this image. What you can see is a conglomeration of medias - plaster, clay, wax and tissue paper that imbued the wax with a verdigris hue. | ![]() Mummified head 2015This head was an attempt to replicate a stage in the making of the plaster mould from the clay bust which was partially covered with plaster and scrim. |
