Researching my theme of the abject body and it keeps emerging everywhere I go. Went to see The Human Factor exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in August 2014 just before the second year of my BA course commenced. So entranced went back three times. Full of different artists with their own representations of the human body created in so many different medias. I particularly liked the work of Paloma Varga Weiss and could not stop looking at her Lying Man which shows a dismembered male nude created using a full body cast that was replicated in limewood with a mechanical copying lathe. The artist states in The Hayward Gallery -The Figure in Contemporary Sculpture “as I get more distance, I feel that it is more about a destructed soul than a dissected body”.
