When used in sculpture, wood has great physicality – that is what I am interested in. I am interested in beginning wooden sculpture in the third year of my BA in Fine Art and wonder what wood to use. I must find out all about the different qualities of the woods which can be used, how to obtain it and how each wood reacts. How wonderful!

I have discovered the work of Aaron Demetz (see picture). I love his rough textured sculptured carving (a parallel to impasto painting). I also am very keen on the charred works he has done which I feel are very emotive.
